Red geranium-Pelargonium x hortorum- photos

Common Geranium is a very popular annual noted for its large clusters of floral heads. The Garden Geranium, Pelargonium x hortorum on its botanical name is a very rewarding bedding plant used in pathways and border, blooming continuously from early summer till the frost comes.
Geraniums in a wide range of colors, from white, pink, red, salmon, orange, violet, single-colored or bi-color are commonly used as a bold-textured accent in hanging baskets, window boxes, planters and even as houseplants in Winter.

I often admire the geraniums in the window boxes on this old building, left in ruins on purpose (I think), in the old center of the town.

Orchids are picky flowers-orchid photos

Welcome to Macro Flowers Saturday on this beautiful weekend!

Orchids are gorgeous flowers as long as they are in bloom. After the flowers are gone you end up with a poor looking foliage and a lot of pampering, hoping that you will see those beautiful flowers again.
All my orchids brought new spikes over this winter and leaves as-well, but the buds are drying and falling off (except on one orchid of ten). Nothing has changed in their environment, except the season.
The diagnoses for bud blast can be just about everything; too much watering or not enough, too high temperature or too low, not enough light or anything else that you will never find out.
I believe, orchids are the most unpredictable flowers ever, when they are not in their native habitat.

The photos of these beautiful white-pink Phalaenopsis orchids with purple spots were taken at the garden center, were I often waste my money on these overly picky flowers.

Welcome to a new round of Macro Flowers Saturday!

Carnation flowers are one of the most valued cut flowers in winter time.
The Carnation, the descendant of Dyanthus Caryophyllus, with its large, fringed flowers of various colors is a classic beauty, timeless in its appeal.

Winter is back by us. It is snowing slowly and constantly, as you can see in the background of some of the pictures. It's the best time to admire some passionate, red carnation flowers.

Orange pansy-Viola tricolor-Viola × wittrockiana

The hardy but delicate pansy is one of the earliest flowering plants, in spring .
Its ancestor, the Viola tricolor, is growing wild on European grain-fields.
Viola tricolor hybridized with other viola species gave us the large-flowered garden plant, with velvety petals, referred to as Viola × wittrockiana.

"Perhaps no flower (not excepting even the queenly rose) claims to be so universal a favorite, as the viola tricolor; none currently has been honored with so rich a variety of names, at once expressive of grace, delicacy and tenderness."

Due to the shape of the petals, in particular its resemblance to the human face, the pansy is often associated with deep contemplation, hence its name; "pansy" comes from the French word pensée meaning "thought".
The smaller, usually purple, wild pansy is also known as Johnny-jump-up, heartsease, and love-in-idleness.

The pansies in the photo have a single color and black lines radiating from the flower center similar to viola markings.
Pansies are winter hardy, they can survive light frost and short periods of snow cover (see the link). In warmer climates pansies can even bloom over the winter.
Well, this is not a marking, just a small visitor with markings on its legs. The little guy is a perfect match in color for this pansy.

Snowdrops in January-snowdrop photos

Welcome to a new addition of Macro Flowers! I bring spring to you today. The new snowdrops are out.
In the new year, winter suddenly retreats and instead of the usual, frosty days we have temperatures between 5-10°C. All the snow is gone and the snowdrops are here.
The above image is the one we commonly associate with snowdrops, we always look at them from above.
Have you ever looked at a snowdrop flower from below?
Have you ever wondered what is this delicate, little flower hiding under its bent head?
There are so many details and color under the little flower head. You just have to turn it upside down and you'll discover a world you've seen all your life but never looked at it.
What a huge difference by just changing the angle of view.

Beautiful hibiscus flowers-Macro Flowers Saturday

Welcome, in the new year!
I hope you all had a beautiful holiday season and are starting the new year with fresh energy.

Hibiscus flowers are native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. Here in my home we grow them indoors and cherish them for their showy flowers.

Hibiscus is a primary ingredient in many herbal teas, popular as a natural diuretic, containing vitamin C and minerals.
Dried hibiscus is edible, and is often a delicacy in some parts of the world. It can also be candied and used as a garnish.

The red hibiscus flower is traditionally worn by Tahitian women. A single flower is tucked behind the ear indicating the wearer's availability for marriage. Isn't that a beautiful tradition?

White cherry blossom tree twigs-photos

Cherry blossoms are indigenous to many East Asian states including Japan, Korea, and China. Japan has a wide variety of cherry blossoms called sakura.
Most varieties produce light pink to pure white blossoms, but there are also cherry trees with dark pink or slightly yellowish blossoms.
