Happy New Year 2011!-Macro Flowers Saturday

New Year Wish...

Perhaps a bit wiser,
a bit kinder, too,
a little bit braver,
a heart that's more true,
a touch of believing
I've not known before,
in joys I'm receiving
a little bit more.
Happy new Year 2011!
A little more anxious
to reach out my hand,
despite hurt or problems
to still understand,
accepting the heartache
that life often brings,
a little more beauty
in life's simple things.

Bush branches covered with snow
A prayer when I'm weary
as onward I trod,
a little more trusting,
believing in God,
'tis this I would wish for
within moments dear,
not a lot - just a little
this wondrous new year.
~ Garnett Ann Schultz

Have a Beautiful New Year's Eve!

Merry Christmas! from Macro Flowers Saturday

The Wreath is on the Door

The wreath is on the door
And the snow is on the tree
God has laid His holy hands
On all that we can see.

Be quick to raise your voice
And praise what He has brought.
Keep now His love in every choice
And Christmas in every thought.
Merry Christmas
I wish all of you a blessed and merry Christmas!
May Peace be your gift at Christmas and your blessing all year through!

If you still have free space for decorations on your blog, like the ones I have here (on the left and right side), there are many beautiful free icons at this post. You will find there instructions for installation too.

Christmas thoughts

I Wish That I Could Wrap Up Christmas

I wish that I could wrap up all the love and Holiday cheer
That comes along with Christmas and with New Year's every year,
Pack it in a pretty box and put it on my shelf
And pull it down again each year and give it to myself.

I wish that I could tie up all my favorite carols with twine,
Wind around some ribbon, too, and for twelve months call them mine
Until the next Yuletide came when the sounds again could be unfurled
And untie every single one then give them to the world.

Winter rose-Red rose in snow

Welcome to another macro flowers weekend, this time with winter roses.

Most roses are long gone in December. The rose bushes of this one species are under snow for days now and they don't seam to suffer. I would say, they like is.
I took some photos on the first day of snow, this week and I repeated them after a few days.
Each second photo was taken two days later.
Click on the first photo and see the entire series enlarged.

As you can see, the difference is only a thicker snow blanket, the roses are not altered, even now at -6C.

Pink Cyclamen photos

Cyclamen are grown for their beautiful flowers and their patterned foliage.
Flowering time may be any month of the year, so, we can have them in winter too, in our homes.

Several species of Cyclamen are hardy and can be grown outdoors in mild climates. These cyclamen flowers, bought from the florist are more sensitive to frost.
While flowering, florists' cyclamens should be kept below 20 °C (68 °F). Higher temperature than this may induce the plant to go dormant.

Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed that with the sun's love,
In the spring, becomes the rose.

Common Marigold-Calendula officinalis macro photo

The Common Marigold - Calendula officinalis - is familiar to everyone, with its pale-green leaves and golden orange flowers. It is said to be in bloom on the calends of every month, hence its Latin name.
Calendula, this powerful flower, is known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, being used as a wound-healer or in skin infections and eczema.

Pot marigold, on its other name, is known to be high in anti-oxidants that may help prevent skin cell damage caused by free radicals. Therefor, pot marigold flowers are used in several cosmetic and pharmaceutic preparations like skin creams, shampoos for oily hair and herbal mouth rinses.
